## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 26, 2002, TIMA, FLT 5131, EN ROUTE FROM GTF TO BIL, HAD THE REAR FAIRING FROM THE CARGO POD DEPART THE AIRCRAFT. THE FLIGHT CREW STATED THEY HEARD A BANG APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES OUT DESCENDING THROUGH 9000 FT. MLS INTO BIL. THE FLIGHT CREW ASSUMEDA PROBABLE BIRD STRIKE. UPON LANDING AND PARKING AT THE POSTAL RAMP IN BIL, THEY WERE INFORMED THAT THE REAR POD FAIRING WAS MISSING. INVESTIGATION COULD NOT CONCLUDE A PROBABLE CAUSE, BUT RECOMMENDED ON OTHER HIGH TIME AIRCRAFT, THAT THE OPERATOR BEGIN A MORE COMPREHENSIVE INSPECTION PROGRAM ON COMPOSITE STRUCTURES OF THIS TYPE OF AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
