## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT IN COMMAND WAS OCCUPYING THE RIGHT SEAT AND GIVING MULTIENGINE DUAL INSTRUCTION. THE PILOT IN THE LEFT SEAT WAS MANIPULATING THE CONTROLS AND FAILED TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR, THE PILOT IN COMMAND (RIGHT SEAT PILOT) FAILED TO OBSERVE THE LANDING GEAR POSITION AND SUBSEQUENTLY ALLOWED THE PILOT FLYING TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE LANDING GEAR RETRACTED. THE PILOT IN COMMAND DOES NOT HOLD A MULTIENGINE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATE, HIS INSTRUCTOR HAS A SINGLE ENGINE RATING ONLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04LA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04LA124), May 1, 2002: Beech 58 (N4097S), Lansing, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight crew's failure to follow the checklist resulting in a landing without the landing gear extended.

## Other reports on N4097S (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19980604023449I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19980604023449I), Jun 4, 1998: Beech 58 (N4097S), Wichita, KS, Minor damage. Nose gear failed extend with green light for landing. Upper drag brace broke at weld. Age stress and corrosion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
