## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE ON FINAL, THE PILOT ALLOWED THE AIRCRAFT TO DRIFT FROM THE LEFT GRASS RUNWAY (33L) TOWARDS THE RIGHT GRASS RUNWAY (33R). WHILE MAKING AN ADJUSTMENT HE LEFT THE SPOILERS OUT TOO FAR AND LOST MORE ALTITUDE THAN EXPECTED. DUE TO THE CROSS WIND, THE PILOT HAD THE LEFT WING DOWN AND WHILE CONCENTRATING ON THE GULLY AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND THE LOSS OF ALTITUDE HE DID NOT LEVEL THE WINGS AND THE LEFT WING TIP STRUCK THE GRASS AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO LAND IN A CRAB (SIDEWARD) SITUATION WHICH CAUSED THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD02LA048](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD02LA048), May 5, 2002: Burkhart Grob G103 (N5364G), Fairfield, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain proper runway alignment. A factor in the accident was the pilot's delay in retracting the spoilers.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
