## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 05/09/2002 AT 2300EDT FLIGHT 5283 DIVERTED AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 16 DUE TO AN INFLIGHT MESSAGE ON THE EICAS STATING "RUDDER SYSTEM 1 AND 2 INOP." THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP WITHOUT INCIDENT. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT A PRESSURE SWITCH HAD FAILED ON THE RUDDER POWER CONTROL UNIT (PCU). MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL CHANGED BOTH PRESSURE SWITCHES AND THE RUDDER SYSTEM WORKED NORMALLY. NO LOSS OF HYDRAULIC OR FULL RUDDER CONTROL WAS EXPERIENCED DURING FLIGHT. END OF STATEMENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
