## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) MR. ODOM STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING A CROSS-WIND TAKEOFF FROM A GRASS FIELD, HE ENCOUNTERED SEVERE WINDS AT APPROXIMATELY 1000' INTO HIS TAKEOFF ROLL. THE WINDS ENCOUNTERED BLEW HIM APPROXIMATELY 10' OFF THE RUNWAY AT ABOUT 300' ALTITUDE. HE HAD RETRACTED THE LANDING GEAR BUT ENCOUNTERED A SEVERE DOWN DRAFT WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO "LOSE LIFT AND THE PLANE STARTED..." TO SINK. MR. ODOM REDUCED THE POWER AND LOWERED THE NOSE AND THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE GROUND WITH THE GEAR RETRACTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
