## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) MR. OLIVER STATED "ON MAY 17, 2002 AT APPROXIMATELY 11:00 AM PDST I TOOK A FLIGHT IN VFR CONDITIONS TO TEST (ENGINE) GEAR BOX INSTALLATION. I CLIMBED TO 4500' ABOUT 4 MILES FROM AIRPORT (SAN LUIS OBISPO). AFTER FLYING 10 MINUTES, ENGINE QUIT, AND I ATTEMPTED TO GLIDE TO AIRPORT (SAN LUIS OBISPO). ENDED UP APPROXIMATELY 20" SHORT OF RUNWAY LANDING WITH PARTIAL GEAR DOWN IN DIRT."

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
