## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT HAD DEPARTED SOLDOTNA (SXQ) AIRPORT IN THE MORNING WITH LIGHT WINDS. THE WIND CAME UP SUDDENLY ABOUT 1:00 OR 2:00 PM, OUT OF THE NNE, WITH GUSTS ESTIMATED AT 20-25 MPH. WHEN THE PILOT RETURNED AT 3:00 PM, THE AWOS REPORTED 0508KTS, AND THE DIRECTION WAS VARYING FROM A HEAD WIND TO A TAIL WIND. AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE I FOUND THE RIGHT WHEEL HUB BROKEN. COUNSELED PILOT ON WIND TECHNIQUE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC02LA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC02LA037), May 21, 2002: Piper PA-12 (N2514M), Soldotna, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for a crosswind during the landing roll. A factor was the presence of a crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
