## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 22, 2002, MR. JAMES HUNTER WEBSTER, HOLDER OF PILOT'S CERTIFICATE (#239707171) OPERATED N5568J ON A TRAINING FLIGHT FROM OPA LOCKA AIRPORT IN OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA. WHILE PRACTICING IFR FLIGHT THE ENGINE ON N5568J LOST POWER. THE ENGINE FAILED 30 SECONDS LATER. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED IN THE EVERGLADES SWAMP AREA WEST OF OPA LOCKA WEST AIRPORT, DAMAGING THE NOSE LANDING GEAR AND THE ENGINE MOUNT ASSEMBLY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT REVEALED A RUPTURED OIL COOLER HOSE GOING FROM THE ENGINE ACCESSORY CASE TO THE OIL COOLER. THE HOSE FAILURE CAUSED THE ENGINE OIL TO BE PUMPED OUT OF THE ENGINE, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH AN INCIDENT.
