## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED WHILE THE EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR-BUILT AIRCRAFT WAS TAXIING TO THE ACTIVE RUNWAY. POST-MISHAP EXAMINATION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED THAT ONE OF THE MAIN LANDING GEAR ACTUATOR ROD-ENDS HAD FAILED; THE ROD END BEARING SHELL HAD SPLIT ALLOWING THE BEARING TO SEPARATE FROM IT. THE AIRCRAFT IS THE PROTOTYPE FOR KITS CURRENTLY BEING MARKETED FOR SALE BY MAVERICK AIRCRAFT AS THE MAVERICK JET (WWW.MAVERICKJETS.COM). THE PIC, AND EMPLOYEE OF MAVERICK, REPORTED THAT THE ROD-END WAS APPARENTLY AN INDUSTRIAL-GRADE PART INSTALLED BY THE ORIGINAL BUILDER (THE PREVIOUS OWNER) THAT WAS NOT SPECIFICALLY MANUFACTURED FOR AVIATION USE. NO DETAILED INFORMATION REGARDING THE ROD-END MANUFACTURER OR PART NUMBER WAS AVAILABLE. THE PIC NOTED THAT AVIATION-QUALITY ROD-ENDS WILL BE INSTALLED ON THE AIRCRAFT WHEN IT IS REPAIRED, AND ALSO PROVIDED WITH THE KITS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
