## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT DEPARTED (SEE) FOR LOCAL DAY TIME VFR FLIGHT. UPON RETURN TO SEE THE PILOT LANDED ON RUNWAY 27 WITH A LEFT CROSSWIND. AFTER TOUCH DOWN, THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR, AFT, UPPER ATTACH FITTING FAILED AT A WELDED JOINT. THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND FOLDED UNDER THE FUSELAGE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP ON THE RUNWAY AFTER NOSING OVER ONTO THE PROPELLER ASSEMBLY. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED AND THERE WAS NO OTHER PROPERTY DAMAGE. A CLOSE EXAMINATION OF THE WELDED FITTING DISCLOSED RUST AND CORROSION IN THE JOINT OF THE WELD. THE REPORTING INSPECTOR SPECULATES THAT ONCE A SIDE LOAD WAS IMPOSED ON THE LANDING GEAR DURING THE CROSS WIND LANDING, THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR STRUT WAS OVERLOADED, AND FAILED DUE TO ITS DETERIORATED/CORRODED CONDITION. THIS INCIDENT IS NOT RELATED TO ANY NMAC OR PILOT DEVIATION REPORTED BY ATC. A FAA M&D REPORT WILL BE SUBMITTED BY THE OWNER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
