## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE APPROACHING THE RUNWAY IN A LEFT DOWNWIND, THE PILOT SAW ANOTHER AIRPLANE ON SHORT FINAL ABOUT TO LAND ON THE WEST RUNWAY. THE PILOT CONTINUED ON THE LEFT DOWNWIND AND NOTED THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NEED TIME TO GET OFF THE RUNWAY SINCE THERE WERE NO TAXIWAYS. THE PILOT CONTINUED ON THE LEFT DOWNWIND AND THEN MADE A LEFT HAND TURN, TO SET UP FOR AN OVERHEAD APPROACH. WHILE INITIATING THE LEFT TURN, THE AIRPLANE SUDDENLY GOT INTO AN UNUSUAL ATTITUDE. THE LEFT WING DIPPED AND THE NOSE WAS POINTED TOWARD THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI02LA155](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI02LA155), Jun 8, 2002: Aeronca O-58B (N46899), Alexandria, IN, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed which resulted in a stall. A factor was the low altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
