## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT TAXIED THE AIRPLANE TO THE END OF THE GRASS STRIP, AND POSITIONED THE AIRPLANE TO DEPART THE STRIP DIAGONALLY, IN AN EFFORT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXISTING WIND CONDITIONS. DURING THE TAKEOFF, THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO CLIMB; HOWEVER IT REMAINED IN GROUND EFFECT. THE AIRPLANE THEN STRUCK A TREE AND A POWER LINE, SHEARING OFF THE RIGHT WING FROM THE FUSELAGE. THE AIRPLANE DESCENDED BACK TO THE GROUND, NOSED OVER, AND CAME TO REST INVERTED IN A HAY FIELD. HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS A CAUSAL FACTOR, IT WAS COMPUTED TO BE 3,500 AT THE TIME THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC02LA113](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC02LA113), Jun 11, 2002: Piper PA-28-200 (N9357N), Gettysburg, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to accurately compute takeoff performance and his failure to establish a positive climb resulting in a collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
