## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT HAS NO RECOLLECTION OF THE FLIGHT DUE TO SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES FROM THE ACCIDENT AND THE PASSENGER REPORTED AN UNEVENTFUL FLIGHT UNTIL HE HEARD THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE GOING TO FULL POWER AS THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED INTO THE TREES ONE HALF MILE WEST OF THE AIRPORT. A WITNESS ON THE GROUND, AT THE AIRPORT, REPORTED TO HAVE ONLY HEARD THE AIRCRAFT APPROACHING FOR LANDING. THE WITNESS REPORTED HEARING THE ENGINE GO TO FULL POWER FOLLOWED BY THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES IMPACTING THE TREES THEN HEARING THE ENGINE COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP. THE AIRPORT MANAGER AND A RESPONDING SHERIFF DEPUTY REPORTED A HEAVY THUNDERSTORM WITHIN FIVE MILES TO THE NORTH OF THE AIRPORT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE PILOT WAS NOT QUALIFIED IN THE CATEGORY AND CLASS OF AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW02LA180](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW02LA180), Jun 14, 2002: Frennance Twinstar (N711FS), Bastrop, LA, destroyed. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain altitude for an undetermined reason, which resulted in an in-flight collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
