(-23) POPE FIELD IS A PRIVATE STRIP WITH A NORTH SOUTH RUNWAY. WITH A ROAD THAT PARALLELS THE RUNWAY ON THE EAST SIDE, WITH A HIGH BANK ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ROAD HAD BEEN GRADED AND HAD GRADER BERMS ON EACH SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS WAS THE PILOT'S FIRST TIME LANDING AT THIS STRIP. HE DID CALL AND ASK FOR ADVICE AND STATED HE WAS TOLD THAT THEY LANDED ON THE ROAD. AFTER LANDING THE PILOT STATED THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL HIT THE BERM TRYING TO STAY AWAY FROM THE BANK ON THE LEFT. THE PILOT REPORTED THE AIRCRAFT YAWED TO THE LEFT AND THE LEFT WING TIP HIT THE GROUND AND SPUN THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT. WITNESS REPORTED THAT AIRCRAFT STRUCK BANK WITH LEFT WING, WHICH TURNED AIRCRAFT INTO BANK AND DITCH, AND BERM WAS NOT A FACTOR. LANDING SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE ON LANDING SURFACE INSTEAD OF ROADWAY. SEE ATTACHED SHEETS.
