## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 22, 2002, AT APPROXIMATELY 0930 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME, A CESSNA 172N, N739PF, OPERATED BY AND REGISTERED TO ATLANTA NORTHSIDE AVIATION INC., VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY AND NOSED OVER DURING LANDING, AT THE COBB COUNTY/MCCOLLUM FIELD AIRPORT, MARIETTA, GEORGIA. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE VMC AND NO FLIGHT PLAN HAD BEEN FILED FOR THE 14 CFR PART 91 TRAINING FLIGHT. THE STUDENT PILOT REPORTED NO INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE STUDENT PILOT HAD BEEN AUTHORIZED EARLIER THAT MORNING FOR SOLO FLIGHT AND WAS PRACTICING TOUCH-AND-GO LANDINGS. AFTER LANDING ON RUNWAY 9, POWER WAS ADDED AND THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT, AND NOSED OVER IN THE GRASSY AREA ALONG SIDE THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA02LA117](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA02LA117), Jun 22, 2002: Cessna 172N (N739PF), Marietta, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the takeoff roll, which resulted in the airplane departing the left side of the runway, impacting with a gully and nosing over.

## Other reports on N739PF (2)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19800807037339A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19800807037339A), Aug 7, 1980: Cessna 172N (N739PF), Spring Valley, NY, Substantial damage. Pilot waited too long to abort takeoff. Aircraft ran off end of runway.
- [Accident 19790203002109A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19790203002109A), Feb 3, 1979: Cessna 172N (N739PF), Montgomery, NY, Substantial damage. Student pilot taxied into a parked aircraft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
