## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ENROUTE FROM COLLEGE PARK, PA TO LOUISVILLE, KY TWO HOURS INTO FLIGHT PILOT NOTICED OIL DROPS ON WINDSHIELD. TRIED TO DIVERT TO CIRCLEVILLE TO HAVE A MECHANIC LOOK AT AIRCRAFT BUT THE OIL LEAK GOT MUCH WORSE. THE OIL PRESSURE THEN WENT TO ZERO SO HE SHUT ENGINE DOWN AT 6000FT TO SAVE ENGINE IN CASE HE NEEDED IT LATER. NOW THE PILOT IS TRYING TO MAKE IT TO ROSS COUNTY AIRPORT BUT DECIDES HE CAN NOT MAKE IT. SO HE SEES A BEAN FIELD AND STARTS HIS APPROACH TO LAND. DURING HIS APPROACH HE REALIZES THAT HE IS ON A COLLISION COURSE WITH HIGH ELEVATION POWER LINE SO HE RE-STARTED THEN ENGINE TO GAIN ALTITUDE TO CLEAR THE OBSTACLE. HE THEN SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AGAIN AND LANDED IN THE FIELD DAMAGING THE NOSE GEAR, RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND RIGHT WING. THE OIL LEAK WAS CAUSED BY A PROPELLER GOVERNOR OIL LINE FRACTURE WHERE THE LINE ELBOWS ON THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
