## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM THE GROUND CREW THAT THEY COULD SEE AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF LEAKAGE COMING FROM THE BELLY OF THE AIRCRAFT. AT THIS TIME THE PILOT NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE SPRAY CHEMICAL HE WAS DISTRIBUTING WAS COMING INTO THE AIRCRAFT COCKPIT FROM AROUND THE BELLY SKIN. THE PILOT THEN DECREASED POWER TO MAKE A TURN AND DUMP THE REMAINING CHEMICAL FROM THE STORAGE TANK. AFTER DUMPING CHEMICAL, THE PILOT THEN INCREASED POWER AT THE THROTTLE LEVER BUT THE AIRCRAFTS ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. THE PILOT THEN MANEUVERED THE AIRCRAFT TO A SATURATED RICE FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON MAIN LANDING GEAR AND CONTINUED IN MOTION FOR APPROXIMATELY 200' AT WHICH TIME THE MAIN LANDING GEAR SANK INTO THE MUD CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP INVERTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW02LA194](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW02LA194), Jul 1, 2002: Grumman-Schweizer G-164A (N8917H), Basile, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the loss of engine power as a result of fuel starvation. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

## Other reports on N8917H (2)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19780513033639I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780513033639I), May 13, 1978: Gulstm G164A (N8917H), Eunice, LA, Minor damage. Forced landing after prop blade separated.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
