## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ENROUTE 9K2 TO ENA WHEN AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED NO. 1 ENGINE FIRE ACCOMPANIED BY BOTH FIRE WARNING FLIGHT AND BELL. FIRE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE ENGINE COWLING. THE ENGINE THROTTLE WAS PULLED BACK AND THE FIRE WENT OUT AND ALL WARNINGS STOPPED. THE CREW SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND DIVERTED THE AIRCRAFT TO ILIAMNA, AK., THE NEAREST AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT THE #10 CYLINDER INTAKE 'Y' PIPE HAD SPLIT ALLOWING THE FUEL/AIR MIXTURE TO BE BLOWN DIRECTLY ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST PIPER WHICH IGNITED THE FUEL/AIR MIXTURE AND CAUSED THE FIRE. REPLACEMENT OF THE DAMAGED INTAKE PIPE AND ASSOCIATED SEALS REPAIRED THE DISCREPANCY, THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
