## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 10, 2002, AT 1438 CDT, A WEATHERLY 620B, N9012P LOST ENGINE POEWR AFTER A TURNAROUND MANEUVER. THE PILOT WAS FORCED TO LAND IN A RICE FIELD. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED TO APPLY AGRICULTURAL CHEMICALS TO A RICE FIELD BY SPIKES FLYING SERVICE UNDER CFR 14 PART 137 WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT A LOCAL AGRICULTURAL AIRSTRIP NEAR JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, AT APPROXIMATELY 1420 CDT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE PILOT/OWNER SPECULATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE POWER LOSS MAY BE THAT DURING A NEGATIVE-G MANEUVER THE CARBURETOR FLOAT VALVE MAY HAVE STUCK, THUS STARVING THE ENGINE FOR FUEL. INVESTIGATION BY AN FAA INSPECTOR, AT THE SCENE, REVEALED ADEQUATE FUEL IN EACH WING TANK AND ADEQUATE OIL QUANTITY IN THE OIL TANK. NO CAUSE HAS YET BEEN FOUND TO EXPLAIN THE LOSS OF POWER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
