## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON A FLIGHT FROM PVG TO SFQ, AVID ACROBAT N11BV WAS 1.5 MILES WEST OF PVG AT 1500' WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED LOSING POWER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN BACK TO PVG THE ENGINE LOST POWER COMPLETELY. THE PILOT EXECUTED A FORCED LANDING AT N36*46.372, W07*627.902. AFTER TAKE-OFF THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND STOPPED RUNNING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED AND THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. THE ENGINE SEIZED ON THIS FLIGHT DUE TO PISTON SCUFF AND DAMAGE FROM THE SEIZURE ON PREVIOUS FLIGHT. PILOT STATED THAT RUN UP PRIOR TO THIS FLIGHT WAS NORMAL. THE OWNER STATED HE HAD AN ENGINE STOPPAGE ON A PREVIOUS FLIGHT DUE TO LOSS OF COOLANT. END OF STATEMENTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC02LA139](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC02LA139), Jul 13, 2002: Micket Avid Aerobat (N11BV), Chesapeake, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to a seized cylinder, and the pilot's improper decision to conduct the flight with a known deficiency to the engine.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
