## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIR CARRIER INCIDENT, PITTSBURGH AIRPORT, PA 7/16/02 AT 2041E, VANGUARD AIRLINES FLIGHT 313, AN MD80, LANDED ON RUNWAY 32 AFTER REPORTING A SHUT DOWN OF THE RIGHT ENGINE FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. THE ARFF RESPONDED AND THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO THE RAMP WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE ALLEGHENY FSDO WAS NOTIFIED BY CC:MAIL. (CRUZ/ROO) FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT ENGINE TIE SHAFT TO GEAR BOX FAILED. THIS CAUSED THE LOSS OF POWER AND SHUT DOWN OF THE RIGHT ENGINE. THIS INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED BY JEFF HUTCHINSON PMI FOR P2EA AIRLINES. SUBMISSION OF THIS REPORT CLOSES THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
