## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS MAKING AN APPROACH TO LAND AT 17S WITH A GUSTY CROSSWIND. HE MADE A SHORT APPROACH AND DID NOT FLY A STABILIZED FINAL APPROACH. THE AIRCRAFT WAS ALLOWED TO GET TOO SLOW PRIOR TO LANDING. WHEN POWER WAS ADDED CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT MAINTAINED. THE MAIN ROTOR STRUCK THE GROUND AND AIRCRAFT CRASHED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA02LA142](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA02LA142), Aug 3, 2002: Kaminski RAF 2000 (N73GK), Newberg, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation (excessive altitude) for crosswind conditions resulting in the gyroplane's rotors contacting the ground. Contributing factors were the gusty crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
