## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 21, 2002, APPROXIMATELY 1915 CDT, CESSNA 150D, N7998Z, DEPARTED THE CRETE, NEBRASKA, MUNICIPAL AIRPORT FOR A POSITIONING FLIGHT TO RED OAK, IOWA. DURING CLIMB OUT THE PIC WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN A POSITIVE RATE OF CLIMB DUE TO INADEQUATE ENGINE POWER. APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET AGL, THE PIC DIVERTED TO THE CRETE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AND WAS FORCED TO LANDE IN A FIELD ONE MILE EAST OF THE AIRPORT. NO INJURY WAS REPORTED. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION CONFIRMED LOW ENGINE POWER DUE TO A COMBINATION OF LOW CYLINDER COMPRESSION AND MALFUNCTIONING CARBURETOR HEAT CONTROL SYSTEM.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
