## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) RALPH DANISON, A STUDENT AT JOHNSTON AVIATION IN ASHLAND, OH, SAID THAT HE HAD A LESSON SCHEDULED WITH HIS FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR. THE FLIGHT WAS NOTSCHEDULED SO THEY QUESTIONED RALPH ABOUT THE FLIGHT AND HE STATED THAT HE JUST TALKED TO HIS INSTRUCTOR WHO WAS SUPPOSEDLY ON HIS WAY TO THE AIRPORT. HE WAS GIVEN THE AIRPLANE TO PREFLIGHT AND THE NEXT THING THEY KNEW HE HAD TAKEN OFF SOLO WITHOUT A STUDENT PILOT CERTIFICATE OR PROPER ENDORSEMENTS AND WAS THREATENING TO COMMIT SUICIDE WITH THE AIRPLANE. RALPH HAD 12 HOURS OF FLIGHT TIME AND MADE SEVERAL THREATS WHILE IN THE AIR CIRCLING OVER ASHLAND AIRPORT. A CFI FROM COLUMBUS, CHRISTINE HOADLEY, WAS ABLE TO TALK TO RALPH AND CALM HIM DOWN ENOUGH TO GET HIM TO LAND THE AIRPLANE. UPON LANDING THE AIRPLANE STRUCK SEVERAL RUNWAY LIGHTS, A PAPI, AND SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE PILOT WAS ARRESTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
