## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 09-14-2002 @ APPROXIMATELY 1230 HOURS EST THIS AIRCRAFT DEPARTED MONTAUK AIRPORT (MTP) HEADING FOR WHITE PLAINS AIRPORT (HPN). AFTER LEVELING OFF IN CRUISE, THE PIC CONTACTED NEW YORK APPROACH, INDICATING THAT HE HAD AN ENGINE FAILURE. THE PIC REQUESTED TO LAND AT MATTITUCK AIRPORT (21N). THE AIRCRAFT LANDED GEAR ON, 3 MILES NORTH AND SHORT OF MATTITUCK AIRPORT (21N), IN PECONIC WINERIES. THERE WAS ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THIS OFFICER HAS FOUND LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL COMING FROM THE ENGINE COWLING. INVESTIGATION HAS REVEALED THAT THE DUAL MAGNETO HAD BROKEN FROM THE MOUNTING BASE, CAUSING IGNITION FAILURE AND OIL STARVATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
