## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT MADE A SUCCESSFUL PRECAUTIONARY LANDING IN A FARM FIELD DUE TO TOUGH RUNNING ENGINE. PILOT DETERMINED PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN CARBURETOR ICE. GROUND POWER CHECK WAS GOOD AND PILOT DECIDED TO CONTINUE HIS FLIGHT. THERE WERE ABOUT 20 HORSES IN THIS FARM FIELD BUT WERE LOCATED AWAY FROM THE TAKE OFF PATH. THE PILOT STARTED HIS TAKE OFF RUN AND THE HORSES DECIDED TO RACE HIM AND THEN GET IN FRONT OF HIM. HE CUT POWER AND SWERVED TO MISS THE HORSES AND HIT A ROCK DAMAGING THE LANDING GEAR AND THE LEFT WING TIP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO EITHER PILOT OR HORSE. AIRCRAFT IS TUBE AND FABRIC CONSTRUCTION. DAMAGED WAS MINOR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
