## Narrative

(-23) PIC/BORDER PATROL AGENT JONATHAN CHAD STEVENS WAS PILOTING A BORDER PATROL HELICOPTER, ASSISTING BORDER PATROL AGENTS ON THE GROUND, WHO WERE ATTEMPTING TO FIND AND DETAIN A GROUP OF ILLEGAL ALIENS. WHILE MANEUVERING THE HELICOPTER IN A REMOTE CANYON AREA, APPROXIMATELY 150 FT ABOVE GROUND, STEVENS WAS LOOKING DOWN AT THE CANYON FLOOR WHEN A MAIN ROTOR BLADE STRUCK A WIRE SUSPENDED ABOVE THE CANYON. THE WIRE WAS SEVERED AND THE HELICOPTER MADE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING NEAR THE SCEND. FOLLOWING AN INSPECTION BY BORDER PATROL MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL, A MAIN ROTOR BLADE WAS REPLACED AND THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO BASE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
