## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT CRASHED A SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE DEPARTURE END OF THE JOHNSON CREEK RUNWAY 17, ADJACENT TO THE JOHNSON CREEK ROAD, EITHER AFTER TAKEOFF OR AN ABORTED LANDING ATTEMPT. NO EYEWITNESSES SAW THE AIRCRAFT UNTIL IT HAD CRASHED AND WAS ON FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED TREES APPROXIMATELY 230 FEET NORTH OF WHERE IT FINALLY CAME TO REST. THE RIGHT WING WAS TORN FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND LANDED APPROXIMATELY 70 FEET NORTH OF THE CRASH SITE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONSUMED BY FIRE AND DESTROYED. HOURS OF EXPERIENCE GAINED FROM OKLAHOMA CITY PRIVATE PILOT RECORDS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA02FA180](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA02FA180), Sep 25, 2002: Piper PA-28-180 (N7027W), Yellow Pine, ID, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from trees. A factor was trees south of the departure end of the runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
