## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2002, AT APPROXIMATELY 1412 HOURS, N5193B, A BELL HELICOPTER BHT 47G2 CAME IN CONTACT WITH HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSMITTAL LINES IN THE VICINITY OF THE AGRICULTURE PLOT WHER AN AERIAL APPLICATION HAD JUST ENDED. THE AIRCRAFT HAD FINISHED THE AERIAL APPLICATION AND WAS ENROUTE TO THE RELOAD AND REFUEL LOCATION. AT APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE FROM THE DESTINATION, THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE CONDUCTOR STRAND (THE TOP STRAND OF WIRE) OF THE HIGH VOLTAGE WIRE ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SPIN AND YAW ALLOWING THE MAIN ROTOR BLADE ASSEMBLY TO CONTACT A LOWER, LARGER, STRAND OF WIRE. THE IMPACT CAUSED THE SEPARATION OF ONE ROTOR BLADE. THE REMAINING ATTACHED ROTOR BLADE AND TOP ASSEMBLY OF THE MAIN TRANSMISSION SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE EARTH BELOW THE LAST WIRE CONTACT, A POST CRASH FIRE ERUPTED, AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. THE WEATHER WAS VFR. NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW02LA264](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW02LA264), Sep 25, 2002: Bell 47G-2 (N5193B), Edmondson, AR, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from the high voltage power lines.

## Other reports on N5193B (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19941003032719A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19941003032719A), Oct 3, 1994: Bell 47G2 (N5193B), Decatur, IL, Substantial damage. Lost power en route. Crash landed. No further info. Cause power loss not addressed. Damage indicates low rotor RPM.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
