## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ENROUTE FROM STL TO ELP, THE LIGHT PANEL FOR THE FLAP QUADRANT, LOCATED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE CENTER CONSOLE, SHORTED OUT, PRODUCING SMOKE AND FIRE. THE FLIGHT CREW PLANNED FOR AN EMERGENCY DIVERSION TO BRO, BUT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE DECISION WAS MADE TO CONTINUE TO ELP, WHERE AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING WAS EXPERIENCED. INSPECTION ON THE GROUND IN ELP REVEALED THAT THE LIGHT PANEL WHICH SHORTED OUT IN FLIGHT WAS THE SOLE SOURCE OF THE SMOKE AND FIRE. THE LIGHT PANEL WAS REPLACED, AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION WAS PASSED ON TO THE LA ACO AND THE LA AEG, AS WELL AS BEING SUBMITTED ON AN SDR. THE INCIDENT WAS JUDGED BY ALL TO HAVE BEEN AN ISOLATED COMPONENT FAILURE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
