## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DELTA FLIGHT #1440 WAS HIT BY A LARGE BIRD OR BIRDS (SUSPECT GEESE) AT FLIGHT LEVEL 6400' ON APPROACH TO SALT LAKE CITY. AFTER FLIGHT CREW NOTICED A 6" BY 4" HOLE IN LEFT LEADING EDGE SLAT. THE LEFT LEADING EDGE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER HAD A LARGE DENT. DELTA MAINTENANCE CREW PERFORMED BIRD STRIKE INSPECTION ON AIRCRAFT. LEFT LEADING EDGE COVER OF HORIZONTAL STABILIZER WAS REMOVED FOR REPAIR. LEFT LEADING EDGE WING SLAT REPLACED. LEFT ENGINE WAS INSPECTED AND BORESCOPED, INSPECTION RESULTED IN ENGINE BEING OK. AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
