## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 14, 2002, A BEECHCRAFT (BE-35-K35), N9508R, PILOTED BY MR. JAMES HOGAN, AN ATP CERTIFICATE NUMBER 1474789, ALSO THE REGISTERED OWNER, DEPARTED GRANADA, MISSISSIPPI AT APPROXIMATELY 11:45 AM LOCAL TIME. MR. HOGAN HAD FILED A FLIGHT PLAN FOR GASTONS RESORT LOCATED ON THE WHITE RIVER, NEAR FLIPPIN, ARKANSAS. ^PRIVACY DATA OM^ A WITNESS, SAID SHE HEARD A PLANE PASS OVER HER HOUSE TWICE AND LAND ON THE THIRD TIME IN A PASTURE JUST NORTH OF HER HOUSE. THE AIRCRAFT WENT THROUGH THE FENCE AND HIT A TREE IN HER DRIVEWAY, CUTTING THE TAIL OFF THE AIRPLANE. MR. HOGAN WAS NOT HURT BUT SUFFERED A SCRAPE ON HIS LEG. THIS INSPECTOR INTERVIEWED MR. HOGAN ON 10/15/02 AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD CONFUSED THE PASTURE FOR GASTONS AIRPORT LOCATED ABOUT 8 NM AWAY. HE SAID HE MADE 2 PASSES OVER THE FIELD BUT DID NOT SEE THE CROSS FENCE LOCATED ABOUT 1/3RD THE WAY DOWN THE PASTURE. ON HIS TOUCH DOWN HE SAW THE FENCE AND PULLED UP TO CLEAR THE FENCE AND GOT TOO HIGH. HE THEN TOUCHED BACK DOWN AND WAS TO LONG AND COULD NOT STOP ON THE GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT WENT THROUGH THE FENCE AFTER SLIDING 660 FEET, HIT A TREE WITH THE TAIL, ENDING UP IN ^PRIVACY DA^ DRIVEWAY APPROXIMATELY 125 FT. FROM HER HOUSE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW03LA010](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW03LA010), Oct 14, 2002: Beech K35 (N9508R), Flippin, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of an unsuitable landing area. A contributing factor was the pilot's disorientation.

## Other reports on N9508R (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19900708039279I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900708039279I), Jul 8, 1990: Beech K35 (N9508R), Dallas, TX, Minor damage. Made a hard landing. Nose gear folded on rollout.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
