## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED THROUGHOUT APPROACH AND LANDING. DURING LANDING AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN WITH ONLY LEFT MAIN GEAR ON THE RUNWAY (APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET FROM EDGE OF PAVEMENT). THROUGHOUT REMAINDER OF LANDING ATTEMPT THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR ENCOUNTERED SIGNIFICANT DRAG IN SOFT DIRT AND TERRAIN SLOPING DOWNHILL FROM THE RUNWAY. THE DRAG ON THAT GEAR CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO DEPART FURTHER FROM THE RUNWAY, WHEREBY THE RIGHT WING ENCOUNTERED A TREE, FURTHER PULLING THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RIGHT, AWAY FROM THE RUNWAY AREA. AS THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED THE RIGHT WING WAS REMOVED BY CONTACT WITH ANOTHER TREE, FOLLOWED BY SUBSEQUENT CONTACT WITH ADDITIONAL TREES WHICH SEPARATED THE LEFT WING, AND EMPENNAGE FROM THE MAIN FUSELAGE STRUCTURE. FUSELAGE CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN AGAINST A TREE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03LA005](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03LA005), Oct 15, 2002: IV Lancair IV (N599L), Coeur d'Alene, ID, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate flare and his failure to maintain runway alignment. The pilot's lack of familiarity, downsloping terrain, and trees are contributing factors.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
