## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT MADE A STEEP APPROACH TO LANDING ON RUNWAY 34. THE AIRCRAFT WAS REPORTED TO HAVE MADE A HARD LANDING, AND IMMEDIATELY DEPARTED THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CLIMBED STEEPLY, NOSED OVER, DESCENDED VERTICALLY AND CRASHED NEAR THE RUNWAY. INVESTIGATION DID NOT DISCLOSE ANY EVIDENCE THAT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ON IMPACT. INVESTIGATION DID REVEAL THAT THE ELEVATOR CONTROL WAS IN THE FULL NOSE UP POSITION AT THE TIME OF THE IMPACT. NOTE: PILOT RECORDS WERE NOT LOCATED, THE HOURS, MAKE AND MODEL, HOURS LAST 90 DAYS AND TOTAL HOURS IS NOT KNOWN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA013](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA013), Oct 18, 2002: Wondrasek Rans S-10 Sakota (N228DW), Missouri Valley, IA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control and adequate airspeed, resulting in the inadvertent stall/spin. A factor was the low altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
