## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 19, 2002 AT 0858 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME A BEECHCRAFT 1900D REPORTED SHEET METAL PEELING OFF THE RIGHT ENGINE. THE AIRCRAFT MADE AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING AT LITTLE ROCK ADAMS FIELD. THE AIRPLANE WAS REGISTERED TO MESA AIRLINES INC. OF PHOENIX ARIZONA. THE FLIGHT CREW OF 2 AND 14 PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED DURING THE INCIDENT. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION AND MAINTENANCE REVEALED THAT A LIGHTNING STRIKE BLEW OFF A RIVET HEAD AND PUT A HOLE IN THE LEADING EDGE OF THE PANEL, CAUSING THE PANEL TO LIFT UP INTO THE AIR STREAM FURTHER DAMAGING THE PANEL. A NEW PANEL WAS INSTALLED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
