## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT APPROXIMATELY 4:34 PM CDT ON OCTOBER 21, 2002 WITNESSES ON THE GROUND OBSERVED A CESSNA 150 PERFORMING LOW LEVEL AEROBATICS. DURING ONE OF THESE MANEUVERS THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND IN A STEEP NOSE LOW ATTITUDE IN A FARM FIELD NEAR THE PILOT'S RESIDENCE. ONE WITNESS STATED "THE AIRCRAFT COMPLETED ONE LOOP AND WAS ATTEMPTING ANOTHER BUT DID NOT PULL UP SOON ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING THE GROUND." WITNESSES REPORT THE PILOT WAS INITIALLY UNCONSCIOUS BUT SOON REVIVED AND EXTRICATED HIMSELF FROM THE WRECKAGE. TWO CIVILIAN WITNESSES AND A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY REPORTED THE PILOT SMELLED STRONGLY OF ALCOHOL, ACTED CONFUSED, REFUSED MEDICAL TREATMENT AND WAS BELLIGERENT WITH MEDICAL PERSONNEL. THE PILOT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL AND ADMITTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA010](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA010), Oct 21, 2002: Cessna 150M (N7XC), Kincaid, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot not maintaining altitude/clearance from the terrain during the aerobatic maneuver. A factor to the accident was the pilot being impaired by alcohol.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
