## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 22, 2002, APPROXIMATELY 1800 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME, A BEECH A23 SINGLE-ENGINE AIRPLANE, N1451L, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING A FORCED LANDING FOLLOWING A PARTIAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DURING CLIMB TO CRUISE NEAR FARMINGTON, ARKANSAS. THE AIRPLANE WAS OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE PILOT. THE PRIVATE PILOT, SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRPLANE, WAS NOT INJURED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED, AND A FLIGHT PLAN WAS NOT FILED FOR THE 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 91 MAINTENANCE TEST FLIGHT. THE LOCAL FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP NEAR FARMINGTON, APPROXIMATELY 1755. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION INDICATES THAT THE PILOT, WHO IS A CERTIFICATED AIRFRAME AND POWER PLANT MECHANIC, HAD REPLACED THE ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP AND WAS PERFORMING A TEST FLIGHT FOR ITS REPLACEMENT WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO PRODUCE ONLY PARTIAL POWER. THE PILOT INITIATED A FORCED LANDING TO A FIELD, AND DURING THE LANDING, THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN HARD COLLAPSING THE MAIN LANDING GEAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
