## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT DEPARTED BROWN FIELD (KSDM) WITH A DESTINATION OF JOHN WAYNE (KSNA). THE PILOT STATED THAT DURING A STABLE APPROACH TO RUNWAY 19L AT APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET ALTITUDE, HE FELT A SLIGHT BUMP AND THE AIRPLANE TURNED HARD RIGHT. HE ADDED FULL POWER TO REGAIN CONTROL BUT THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE GROUND HARD AND CAME TO REST UPRIGHT. AIRPORT RESCUE ARRIVED IMMEDIATELY AND EXTRICATED THE PILOT AND PASSENGER, TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL HOSPITAL WITH MINOR TO MODERATE INJURIES. INVESTIGATION OF THE IMPACT SITE SHOWS THE AIRCRAFT RIGHT WINGTIP STRUCK THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 120 FEET RIGHT OF CENTERLINE ON A HEADING OF 265 DEGREES, THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED FLAT ON THE GROUND 22 FEET LATER HEADING 360 DEGREES, AND CAME TO REST 60 FEET LATER ON A HEADING OF 350 DEGREES. TOTAL DISTANCE FROM FIRST GROUND MARK TO FINAL RESTING, 82 FEET.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX03LA024](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX03LA024), Nov 7, 2002: Beech 35 (N3373C), Santa Ana, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's encounter with wake turbulence resulting in a loss of control. A related factor was insufficient separation by air traffic control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
