## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AMERICAN EAGLE FLIGHT 3887, ON NOV. 21, 2002, DEPARTED DFW AIRPORT ON RUNWAY 36R AT 0812 CST. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF AND BEFORE BEING HANDED TO DEPARTURE CONTROL, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH SMOKE IN THE CABIN. THE FLIGHT ELECTED TO STAY WITH DFW TOWER, FOR RETURN TO THE AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN LANDED ON RUNWAY 36L, EXITED THE RUNWAY ON TAXIWAY E2 AND EVACUATED THE PASSENGERS. THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKE WAS DETERMINED TO BE RESIDUE FLUID FROM AN ENGINE TURBINE WASH EARLIER IN THE DAY. FAA FORM 8020-11 SHOWS THE AIRCRAFT TO BE AN EMB-145. THE ACTUAL AIRCRAFT WAS A CRJ-700.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
