## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS ON AN IFR FLIGHT FROM PORTLAND, OREGON TO HIS HOME BASE IN PASCO, WA. LIGHT ICING WAS ENCOUNTERED ENROUTE AND DEICING EQUIPMENT WAS USED. PILOT EXECUTED AN ILS APPROACH TO PASCO, ARRIVING JUST AFTER DARK. WHILE FLARING THE AIRPLANE FOR LANDING, AT 5-8 FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY, THE AIRPLANE SUDDENLY DROPPED OUT OF THE AIR. THE RIGHT WING AND RIGHT LANDING GEAR IMPACTED THE RUNWAY SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGING THE AIRPLANE. PILOT STATED HE WAS CARRYING AN EXTRA 15 KNOTS OF AIRSPEED ON THE APPROACH. POST-FLIGHT INSPECTION REVEALED ICE REMNANTS ON AIRFRAME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03LA022](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03LA022), Dec 1, 2002: Piper PA-46-350P (N9260P), Pasco, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: Icing conditions and the pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed during the landing. An inadvertent stall was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
