## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF THE PILOT REPORTED THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING GEAR EXTENSION, BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET THE GEAR IN THE DOWN AND LOCKED POSITION. HE SHUT DOWN BOTH ENGINES ON APPROACH AND HIT A BERM ON THE APPROACH END NEXT TO THE RUNWAY, THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED AND SLID ON THE GRASS NEXT TO RUNWAY (24) ABOUT 200 FEET. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST WITH THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. UNABLE TO ESTABLISH THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. AFTER EVALUATION OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES INVOLVED IT APPEARS THAT THE PILOT INADVERTENTLY OPERATED THE AIRCRAFT ON BATTERY POWER ONLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA039](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA039), Dec 15, 2002: Piper PA-30 (N948SB), Jackson, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to follow the checklist and extend the landing gear resulting in a gear up landing.

## Other reports on N948SB (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19961028034179I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19961028034179I), Oct 28, 1996: Piper PA30 (N948SB), Lansing, MI, Minor damage. Electrical failure. Selected gear down. Came down halfway. Smelled smoke. Landed. Gear collapsed. Unfamiliar manual

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
