## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UNITED EXPRESS FLIGHT 5565 WAS ENROUTE FROM ORD TO STL AT FL260 IN VMC CONDITIONS WHEN THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT CALLED THE FLIGHT DECK TO REPORT A SMOKE AND THE SMELL OF SMOKE IN THE CABIN. THE FLIGHT CREW NOTICED THE #2 PAC TEMP RISING RAPIDLY AND TURNED THE TEMP CONTROLLER DOWN. THEY DECLARED AN EMERGENCY, REQUESTED TO DIVERT TO SPI AND STARTED THE QRH CHECK LIST. THE FA CALLED AND REPORTED THE SMELL HAD STOPPED. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT, TAXIED TO THE GATE AND DEPLANED THE PASSENGERS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
