## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AMERICAN EAGLE FLIGHT WAS AT FL200 IN IMC CONDITIONS. THERE WAS A FLASH OF LIGHT BELIEVED BY THE CREW TO BE LIGHTNING. SHORTLY AFTER THE FLASH OF LIGHT THE FLIGHT CREW SMELLED ELECTRICAL SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. THE ODOR ALSO PERMEATED THE CABIN. THE CREW DONNED THERE SMOKE MASKS, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND DESCENDED INTO PROVIDENCE, RI. WHEN GOING THRU 5000 FEET MSL THE #3 GENERATOR WENT OFF LINE. THERE WAS NO LOSS OF ANY SYSTEMS. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 5R AT PVD AND TAXIED ONTO TAXIWAY BRAVO. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SHUT DOWN AND TOWED TO THE GATE AREA AND WAS DEPLANED. MAINTENANCE WAS CALLED AND INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT. THE GENERATOR WAS PUT ON MEL AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RELEASED FOR SERVICE. SEE ATTACHED COPIES OF AIRCRAFT LOG PAGES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
