## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MILES OUT ON APPROACH TO SYR FIRST OFFICER SMELLED FUMES IN COCKPIT. AFTER THE SMELL GREW WORSE THE CREW DONNED OXYGEN MASKS. AT APPROX. 2 MILES OUT THE FIRST OFFICER SAW A LITTLE SMOKE AND COULD SEE A "RED GLOW" FROM HIS #1 WINDOW TERMINAL STRIP. THE ARFF RESPONDED AND THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 28 AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP WITHOUT INCIDENT. WHILE THE CREW WAS ACCOMPLISHING THE SHUTDOWN CHECK THE FIRST OFFICER'S #1 WINDOW SHATTERED. NO FIRE WAS EVER OBSERVED; HOWEVER, THE FIRE CHIEF STATED THAT WHEN THE COCKPIT DOOR WAS OPENED HE COULD SEE A LITTLE SMOKE. MAINTENANCE REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD, WINDSHIELD HEAT CONTROLLER, RELAY 3041-K10, AND TERMINAL END L2. AIRCRAFT WAS GROUND RAN, AND OPERATIONAL CHECK WAS GOOD. AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVECE. THE APMI WAS NOTIFIED BY PHONE. HE STATED THAT PCAA'S RELIABILITY PROGRAM IS INVESTIGATING CRACKED WINDOWS. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
