## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 4/4/03 AT APPROXIMATELY 13:00, A 1946 ERCOUPE 415C, N93815 OPERATED BY JEFF RODNEY KRANTZ, LOST POWER SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM RANGER AIRPORT, F23, RANGER TEXAS. THE AIRCRAFT HIT A TELEPHONE SERVICE BOX, CAUSING THE LEFT WING TO SEPARATE. THE PILOT LEFT THE SCENE AND DID NOT RETURN CALLS TO THE FAA OFFICE. ON APRIL 17, 2003 TWO INSPECTORS FROM THE AFW FSDO TRAVELED TO RANGER TEXAS AND WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, LOCATED MR. JEFF KRANTZ. AN AUDIT OF MR. KRANT'S LOGBOOKS REVEALED THE AIRCRAFT HAD NOT HAD AN ANNUAL INSPECTION SINCE 6/17/1992 AND HE HAD NOT LOGGED ANY FLIGHT TIME SINCE 2/27/1994.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW03LA123](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW03LA123), Apr 4, 2003: Ercoupe 415-C (N93815), Ranger, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for an undetermined reason.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
