## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A GUST OF WIND (IMMEDIATELY AFTER ROTATION) THAT LIFTED THE LEFT WING. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK THE CONTROLS AND ATTEMPTED TO LEVEL THE AIRCRAFT WINGS BUT THE AIRCRAFT HAD DRIFTED CLOSE ENOUGH TOO THE RUNWAY EDGE TO HIT A RUNWAY MARKER SIGN. THE AIRCRAFT SPUN INTO A GROUND LOOP CAUSING DAMAGE TO RIGHT WING, LANDING GEAR, PROPELLER AND TAIL OF AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT MADE A RIGHT 270 DEGREE TURN, STOPPING THE GRASS ALONG SIDE THE RUNWAY. WINDS WERE VARIABLE FROM EAST TO SOUTHWEST FROM 7 TO 10 KNTS. THIS WAS STUDENTS FIRST FLIGHT IN A CONVENTIONAL GEAR AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN03LA066](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN03LA066), Apr 16, 2003: Taylorcraft BC12-D (N43591), West Jordan, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: the dual student's failure to maintain aircraft control and the flight instructor's inadequate supervision of the student. A contributing factor was the unfavorable wind gust.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
