## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CESSNA 310-D, N6861T, IMPACTED THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 1.1 MILES NORTH OF THE RUNWAY 18 THRESHOLD AT PROVO MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AT APPROXIMATELY 5:40 P.M. ON APRIL 17, 2003. THEY HAD ONLY MOMENTS BEFORE ASKED ON THE UNICOM FREQUENCY FOR PRIORITY OVER ANOTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE RIGHT HAND TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 18. THEY STATED THEY HAD A PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT IDENTIFY THAT PROBLEM. WHILE TURNING FROM A MODIFIED BASE TO FINAL LEG, THEY WERE OBSERVED IN A ROLL AND NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK IN A NEAR WINGS-LEVEL AND IN A NEAR VERTICAL ATTITUDE. RUDDER AND AILERON TRIMS WERE EXAMINED BY THE NTSB INVESTIGATOR AND FOUND TO BE TRIMMED CONSISTENT WITH A FAILURE OF THE RIGHT ENGINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Contributing factors were the instructor's inattention to the fuel supply, fuel exhaustion, an inadvertent stall/spin during the turn from base…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
