## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) STUDENT PILOT MADE RIGHT DOWNWIND TO RUNWAY 16 AT STERLING AIRPORT AT TOO LOW AN ALTITUDE. PILOT TURNED RIGHT BASE LEG CUTTING CORNER OF NORMAL TRAFFIC PATTERN. THE STUDENT PILOT TURNED RIGHT CUTTING OFF CORNER OF NORMAL TRAFFIC PATTERN AGAIN AT BASE TO FINAL TRYING TO MAKE THE RUNWAY. AT THIS POINT THE RIGHT WING CONTACTED THE TREES ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE APPROACH TO THE RUNWAY CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO TURN 180 DEGREES COMING TO A STOP IN THE TREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
