## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT BRIEFED THE PASSENGER PRIOR TO LANDING. THE PILOT LAID HIS HAND HELD RADIO ON THE TOP OF THE PROPANE TANK. AS THE BALLOON CONTACTED THE GROUND, THE RADIO FELL ON THE FLOOR. THE PASSENGER TRIED TO PICK THE RADIO UP AND FELL FORWARD INTO THE PROPANE TANK CAUSING INJURY TO HER NECK. THE PILOT HAD HIS BACK TO THE PASSENGERS DURING THE LANDING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW03LA135](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW03LA135), Apr 19, 2003: Aerostar RX-8 (N7172D), Bossier City, LA, no damage. Probable cause: The failure of the passenger to follow the pilots landing instructions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
