## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS LANDING ON RWY 16 IN GUSTY AND CROSSWIND CONDITIONS. HE EXECUTED A WHEEL LANDING AND LOST CONTROL AFTER LOWERING THE TAIL TO THE RWY. HE APPLIED FULL LEFT RUDDER AND WENT OFF RIGHT SIDE OF RUNWAY. THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE GROUND AND THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER. NO INJURIES TO PILOT. THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. (-23 AMENDMENT) FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE LANDING GEAR HAD BEEN INSTALLED/ALIGNED INCORRECTLY, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE AIRCRAFT AFTER A LANDING. THE CROSSWIND WHICH EXISTED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE PILOT TO CONTROL AIRCRAFT. IMPROPER INSTALLATION WAS DISCOVERED BY SCOTT OF BEEGLES AIRCRAFT, GREELY CO.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX03LA140](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX03LA140), Apr 22, 2003: Cessna 180J (N7821K), Angwin, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswind conditions and failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
